Dr. Erica Zelfand is an integrative family physician, medical writer/editor, and public speaker. She is deeply committed to a patient-centered, root-cause-oriented, nature-honoring approach to healing. After completing a residency in family medicine, Dr. Zelfand pursued additional post doctorate training in pediatrics and opened an independent integrative medical clinic in Oregon, where she was surprised to find that a staggering percentage of her patients were children battling ADHD and adults struggling with hormonal imbalances and related mood disorders. This led Dr. Zelfand to further study and ultimately specialize in psychoneuroendocrinoimmunology (PNEI).

Dr. Zelfand is one of the first physicians in the country to enroll in above-board training in MDMA-assisted therapy through the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS). She is also a volunteer “trip sitter,” medical lead, and psychedelic harm reduction workshop co-facilitator with the Zendo Project and other organizations.

Dr. Zelfand loves sharing her knowledge, her reverence for nature, and her zesty sense of humor with her colleagues, her clients, and audiences of all sizes worldwide. To learn more and connect, please visit www.DrZelfand.com.

Dr. Zelfand,

I wanted to thank you so much for today. I am now embarrassed to admit that I came to your workshop primarily as a skeptic who was a planning to arm herself with research to argue against my colleagues’ pro-psychedelic-assisted therapy beliefs.

I think you had started to change my mind by the first break we took. Everything you presented blew my mind and I’m so glad I decided to come today. As a provider to a specialized community with a LOT of controversy (I work with teens and adults with ASD, Level 1/HFA/Aspergers) and also enjoys teaching, I just wanted to say that your workshop was – honestly – an experience that has been in the top 2 or 3 trainings of my life and one that had truly changed my perspective on this area of treatment. I’m very much looking forward to learning more.

I just wanted to say how valuable and appreciated your time was today. I hope you can appreciate the impact you’ve had on my perspective. I can’t thank you enough.

Deepest thanks,

Karen McKibbin, Psy.D.
Executive Director & Licensed Psychologist, Portland Autism Center

Health Empowerment in Developing Countries

These workshops were taught in remote villages affected by poverty, afflicted with high HIV/AIDS rates, and isolated from hospitals and healthcare service centers.

The goal of these classes was to enhance the community members’ working knowledge of basic nutrition, hygiene, sanitation, and first aid to prevent the spread of disease, save lives, and help individuals understand the life or death situations that truly require medical attention.

All of the following programs were researched, developed, and delivered by Dr. Zelfand:

  • CPR, Heimlich Maneuver, and Basic First Aid (3 hours)
  • Nutrition, Lifestyle, and Hygiene for Pregnant Women (1 hours)
  • Attending a Birth and Troubleshooting Obstetric Emergencies (2 hours)
  • Puberty Talk for Adolescent Girls (1.5 hours)
  • Nutrition Foundations & Meal Planning (1 hour)
  • Hygiene & Sanitation for Disease Prevention (1 hour)

To ensure the continuation of health education, Dr. Zelfand trained local NGO workers as well as local empowerment volunteers in all course material before departing each region.
